Research Seminar in Mathematics
Research in Mathematics is an advanced, seminar-style course designed for students who are ready to engage in sustained, independent mathematical inquiry. Building on prior coursework in proof-based mathematics, students work closely with the instructor to explore advanced topics, develop original results or meaningful extensions of known theorems, and learn the practices of mathematical research. Emphasis is placed on formulating precise questions, reading and synthesizing mathematical literature, constructing rigorous proofs, and communicating results clearly through written exposition and presentations. The course supports long-term mathematical mentorship and serves as a capstone experience for students considering further theoretical study or research in mathematics.
Dr. Paquin has coauthored multiple peer-reviewed journal publications with high school students who have previously completed this course.
